Welcome to the OEA!

Welcome to the OEA!

*If you're reading this, that means I successfully pushed this site live before the evacuation. OEA has no reason to think this has gone public, and right now they've got more pressing things to deal with, so this domain should stay accessible for a while. Hopefully.

And, by the time you're reading this, I'll already be gone. Whether I'll be six feet underground or hidden off the grid, I don't know. The latter is preferable, the first is more likely.

The original site was in the middle of being put together and edited by a few different people, so I'll keep my own notes italicized. I've also done my best to shove what extra info I can into the directory. I got my hands on things none of us were meant to see, especially not the greenhorns this site was meant for, and now it's yours to do with what you will.

I went so long without caring about any of this, but it's funny how one vent malfunction can clear up your mind. If even just one person believes me and passes these words along, then this risk will be worth it. Everyone deserves to know what kind of hell has been building behind the scenes, and everyone deserves to know what kind of hell is about to boil over.

Welcome to the OEA onboarding resource for long-term employees! (If you're a short-term employee, please close this page and report to your supervisor. Don't worry, you're not in trouble; we just have other material for you!) This website will help you get familiar with the base goals of the OEA and your own place within the organization.

OEA employees come from all walks of life and enter with varying degrees of knowing who we are and what we do. The information below should help you get up to speed, and don't worry about feeling in over your head! You've already shown great aptitude to make it this far, and thus you've already proven that you're a great addition to our team. You're exactly where you need to be, and we're happy to have you here!

WHAT IS THE OEA?

Across the multitude of realities that exist parallel to each other, there are numerous 3-letter organizations that delve into the new and exciting worlds of the unknown. The Outvoid Exploration Association, also known as the OEA, is one such organization dedicated to the study of the Void and its Outvoid (the latter also known as "Somewhere Out There".)‍ ‍

OEA seeks to understand the possibilities of utilizing the Void's power of creation to better our Earth and humanity as a whole! Currently, we are studying the Void's work, both sentient and inanimate, that has been displaced in the Outvoid. Through this process, we've already made great strides in sciences once thought impossible, and we're innovating in ways we used to only dream about!

[Probably should remove the below paragraph, we don't need to reference anything close to the snap here. Keep focus on the Outvoid, what lies within, and void matter.]

[While OEA and its operations are still under wraps from the general public, we're making preparations to integrate into society and educate humanity on what lies just beyond the veil. One day, Earth and the Void will peacefully coexist with each other and usher in a new era of prosperity and evolution. As an OEA employee, you'll help to make this incredible future happen, and your place will be at the side of those overseeing it all!*]

*I have a vague idea of what the founders intend to do from the scraps I picked up, and I’m sure you can already see through the paper-thin “bettering humanity” spiel. How many times in how many realities have we seen the same kinds of companies do the same kinds of things? They should know better by now, but they always think that they’re the ones who will get it right this time.

WHO ARE THE FOUNDERS?

OEA Was officially established in 2024 by a board of generous and anonymous benefactors, but even before then, these ambitious individuals had preparations well underway in constructing and staffing our facilities!

When they first discovered this new dimension, the founders named it "the Outvoid", and their shared desire to explore it lead to the creation of the "Outvoid Exploration Association"*. The existence of an actual void was only confirmed later, making the name quite a happy coincidence!

*What little more I know about the founders is that they were originally going to call OEA the "Outvoid Excursion Society", which is easier to say in my opinion. Don't know why they changed it. Some of us just say “Out Ex” for short since even “OEA” can be a mouthful.

Even though OEA is a young organization compared to others in our field, the founder's wealth and influence have let us make extraordinary progress in our short time operating. To this day, these benefactors oversee each of our numbered facilities from their main location (often shortened to just “Main”), and they fund our common dreams of knowing the unknown and solving the mysteries of the void!

[There’s a lot of space at the bottom of this text box. Should we fill it with anything?]

[We could do one of the quotes that’s plastered everywhere. “For a better life. For a better Earth.”]

[nah leave it blank. No one’s gonna care they’re just gonna scroll past it anyways. I bet you five bucks that most people are just going to skim this with dead eyes before reporting to their handler]

[Maybe, but I still want to put effort into making this look nice for the people who do read everything.]

THE VOID AND YOU

The void is both a place (lower-case) and a creator entity (upper-case) that exists beyond our dimension and just out of our reach. Between us lies the Outvoid, a limitless plane that holds creations of the Void's own making*. One of our goals is to study the Outvoid as thoroughly as possible, understand the complexities of its inhabitants and ecosystems, plus harvest and harness the matter within.

Imagine being able to conjure anything you can think of and everything beyond the limits of your comprehension. With void matter, we'll be able to bring that what-if to life!

‍ ‍*Somewhere Out There is a cosmic dumping ground of failures the Void threw out. We wouldn't have known that, or the Outvoid's real name, or even the Void's existence at all without SOT’s golden child “KB" telling us. Things could have turned out so differently if she never found us, or if the founders never stumbled upon SOT in the first place.

Speaking of, it's important for all long-term employees to understand the difference between void matter and void extract!

VOID MATTER vs VOID EXTRACT

Void matter is the substance that makes up every single thing within the Outvoid, from the ground you walk on to the creatures that inhabit the plane. It can take on a variety of values and opacities, and it can shape itself into a plethora of tactile materials. However, if items from this plane are brought into our world, they break down into their crude state, one that resembles a thick, viscous sludge.

Most important to note: void matter emits high levels of interdimensional radiation, and it should NEVER be handled without proper PPE (that's yellow-accented hazmat suits for our long-term employees!)*

‍ *The effects of void radiation are vast and horrifying, but I'll find a better way to show that elsewhere.

[Alongside shaping matter ourselves, we are working on finding a way to stabilize these items (and eventually, entities) to keep intact and functional in our realm of existence! [«Probably don’t include the entity part? Maybe just take this out in general?]]

[Until then,] we have discovered a process to neutralize void matter of its harmful properties so that it may be safely stored for further testing. This end product is called extract, and it can be told apart from matter by its sleek appearance and differing viscosities. It maintains a form similar to ink in moderate to high temperatures, but when cooled, it solidifies into a gel-like substance instead. How fascinating!

We're continuously making progress in studying these otherworldly materials and uncovering the secrets of the Outvoid, and you too can help be a part of that process!

EMPLOYMENT AT OEA

OEA has 4 numbered facilities scattered across The United States of America, two monitoring outposts on both the borders of Canada and Mexico, and one main facility that acts as our central operations hub. The exact location of these underground installations are kept locked-down and hushed for both your safety and the safety of the general public. The facility you're sitting in right now may not be your permanent workplace; it's not uncommon for an employee to move around once or twice to find the place that works best for them. Some employees of exceptional aptitude may even find themselves with the honor of being transferred to Main!

Each facility is built near a tear that leads into the Outvoid, specializes in different areas of research and studies, and requires a wide variety of personnel to keep them running. If you have been brought on to OEA long-term but have yet to find an assignment, you may potentially fit a position such as the following:

Researcher - Our brightest minds working with cutting-edge technology to uncover the secrets of the Outvoid and further our knowledge in its related physics and metasciences!

Expeditioner - Our bravest souls who delve into the Outvoid to analyze its environments and residents, collect samples and specimens, and chart unknown territories on expeditions!

R&D Engineer - Our innovative go-getters who draft and fabricate the highly-specialized equipment needed to safely traverse the Outvoid and keep our employees safe from the dangers within and without!

IT Technician* - Our smartest problem-solvers who keep our internal systems up and running, our data safe and secure, and our hardware and software functional!

Visual Artist - Our creative eyes who interoperate the creations within the Outvoid and bring them to life in a way we can archive!

Janitorial Crew- Our diligent maintenance workers who keep our facilities in tip-top shape!

‍ ‍* This is — was — my department. Was a pretty cushy job with a lot of downtime, honestly. One of my coworkers was even developing an onboarding game in his spare time until OEA decided this website would work better. If I can, I'll try to find the WIP rom for that and upload it ((z43a29))

But these sweeping labels aren't all that's available. Factors depending, you may find yourself with the important job of scrubbing audio samples of void interference, organizing, editing, and archiving information, on guard duty for your facility or exploration team, communicating with the entities of the Outvoid, or even cooking for our wonderful canteen! OEA can find a use for all skillsets in all employment positions!

WHAT NEXT?

Most of our current projects revolve around the study of the shared world between us and the Void. You'll find extra information related to what that entails in the navigation bar at the top of the page.

Feel free to read more or return to your supervisor for further information and potentially your first assignment!

You are one step closer to unlocking the secrets of a world beyond, and we're happy to have you with us as the newest member of the Outvoid Exploration Association!

*My notes may be scarce for these extra pages. I'm running out of time faster than I thought to get this pushed out, but I trust you'll be able to put the pieces together.
